Harvey stared at the dog. The dog stared back. They had been like that for a few minutes now, only broken when Charlie whined softly and placed his head on Harvey's knee. Harvey continued to stare before reaching over and petting the dog, only to have it settle next to him contently.

He never had a dog, even as a kid. His father hadn't liked them - his father hadn't liked many things when it came down to it, and Harvey was smart enough to filter his stubbornness to other causes. Charlie rolled his head and Harvey scratched behind his ear. It was a shame he never tried, he thought vaguely as he regarded the animal.
