[rl] Harvey and Maggie

Harvey refused to invite anyone back to the 'house'- apartment really, since Maggie attracted trouble, Joker was trouble and Crane was always a willing audience even behind the condescending lift of his brow. It was bad men in a bad place and yet Maggie came, of her own free will, and part of Harvey found it morbidly entertaining while the other part was thankful.

He leaned against the doorway, the surrounding mostly cleared of crowds thanks to a little help. It was amazing how easy it was to get help without showing your face. The destitute were a shameless workforce.

Maggie didn't really care; it was Harvey, someone she actually gave a damn about and hadn't peaced out on her in one way or another. She'd tucked the bottle she had snagged on the way under her arm, her purse casually slung over her free side. It didn't take her long to reach his door; the hop (however the hell she'd gotten it) had placed her nearly on his doorstep. She gave him a blank look, then stepped closer to him.

"Still lookin' good, Harvey. It's been a while."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Harvey brow rose, unseen behind his hood but the feeling was there. "Maggie." He commented with a turn, walking through the doorway, expecting her to follow.

He held the door open, pulling his hood off and glancing to her before looking to the bottle with a snort. "You never disappoint." he said. "And good to see you too."

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
She followed after him with a smirk on her face, pushing her hair back behind an ear as she walked.

“Have I ever let you down, Harvey?” He probably shouldn’t answer that. “How’ve you been? It’s been forever since I’ve seen you.” NEST kept her…busy.

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Harvey only snorted at the first bit, leading her into a fairly barren, and surprisingly clean considering the Narrows, living area. He gestured to the couch as he moved to another doorway, voice echoing after him.

"Been a bit over a month." He commented. He had been... busy. He still had enough sense not to tell Maggie with what exactly. Ignorance was bliss. "Fine as I can be in this mess." he returned with two glasses, placing them on the coffee table and regarding the blond. "Kept thinking you were overdue for some disaster."

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She glared at his back, but followed him into the living area without a comment. She sat on the couch and leaned forward to set the bottle she carried on the table next to the glasses he had retrieved.

"I personally think I'm overdue some disaster." She replied dryly, shaking her head. "I'm glad to see you're at least alive, though. I had started to wonder. A month is a long time."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
He settled for leaning against the nearby wall, glancing to the window for a long moment before answering without shifting his gaze. "Sometimes the time goes faster than we realize." he said, looking back to her with his split brow raised. "Should I promise to give biweekly check ins?" he asked, tone dryly bemused.

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
She goes ahead and pours them glasses anyway; he can come get his when he wants it. She herself needed this.

"It always goes faster than we realize. It just passes us by in a blink, then the next thing you know, you're eighty something and wondering what the fuck just happened." She took a sip and leaned back with a soft sigh.

"I think you should. That way I don't start freaking out about one of the people care about most."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Introspective today?" Harvey asks at her comment on time, stepping forward. "Either that or it drags out each moment until it seems endless. So is life." His tone was dry as he took a seat in a nearby armchair.

He was struck silent though when Maggie spoke again, watching her critically for a moment before averting his gaze. He picked up his glass, mulling a moment before shaking his head. "I will." And he was actually sincere. His eyes fell to Maggie again, much more severe. "Are you alright?"

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just for you." She shrugged, leaning on the armrest of the couch to face him directly.

She doesn't bother breaking her gaze; instead, she's rather interested in his reaction.

"Thank you." She had to think a moment about his next question.

"Alright enough. Work's been...stressful." She toyed with the rim of her glass. "I haven't exactly been honest with you about just what it is that I do."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
His brow lifted again at that admission, the good half of his face mildly curious rather than anything else. He wasn't exactly 'honest' about a lot of things. "How so?" he asked, prompting her to continue.

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-12 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, I never lied." She said. Best to get that out first. "I do word for RAND and in DC but...it's mostly a cover." She shifted in her seat to face him, swirling her drink in her hand. "The past two years, I haven't really been doing normal RAND work. I've been working with a team called NEST." Don't ask what it stands for.

"Basically, I've been helping the Autobots hunt the last remaining Decepticons on Earth."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Harvey didn't ask what the letters stood for, the next bit she said was more confusing. "'Decepticons?'" He questioned, pausing only a moment before the name struck him again. "Those robots you were up against."

He leaned back, drink still untouched in his hand. "I thought those things were taken care of."

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Those are the ones, yeah." She set her drink down before focusing her gaze on him.

"No, they haven't been. It's all been covered up by the government, part of the job is to make sure everything gets contained." No leaks. "That's why I've been so busy. I can't nail where this guy is; everything keeps getting scrambled everytime I think I get a pinpoint. I know he's somewhere in Asia. It's frustrating."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then who exactly is financing your work? The government?"

To think he believed this robot bit without a question. He wasn't sure if it was the community desensitizing him or simply Maggie herself. He had a feeling though that it was a mix of the two.

"And who's making sure these robots aren't going to come and blast you." he asked- or whatever it was robots did. He was always more of a drama fan than a scifi one.

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-13 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Two years ago she wouldn't have believed this herself. Having him just...automatically believe her was nice, really.

"Us. We're the ones making sure they don't blast the world away. Granted, I'm not on the front lines like the military...but...the signals and tracking can be just as important as the brute strength of it all."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Saving the world in your spare time huh?" Harvey asked, wryly as he picked up his glass and took a drink. At least Gotham didn't have to deal with giant robots- yet. He considered knocking on wood at the thought.

"And you can't find this signal." He raised his brow. "What happens when you do?"

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Kinda, yeah." She grinned and picked her glass back up. It was nice to be able to actually talk to someone honestly about her job istead of spewing a cover story.

"When I do, the actual military members of NEST move in and take it out. With the help of the Autobots, of course."

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"What are these things planning on doing exactly?" Harvey asks. "The "decepticons." " He couldn't help but snort at the name. Seemed robots liked to be literal in their namings and labels.

I LOST THIS NOTIF I FAIL

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"No one is really sure." She shrugs, rolling her eyes. "Best we can figure they're still here cause of the Autobots, but...hmm. I dunno, I think there's more to it than that. They're looking for something, and it's not the 'Bots."

:< I thought you forgot me~ haha yeah, notif has been fail for me too

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
"What would giant robots want from here?" Harvey asked, brow raised and completely serious despite the tone around 'giant robots.'

I just fail DX

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"I dunno. Last time it was their leader. Who knows what it could be this time," She lifted her shoulders into a shrug. She leaned forward, elbows on her knees. "I wish I knew. But we just...don't." IT kind of freaks her out. Every time they get a ping, she panics, just a little bit.

apparently I fail right back :|

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-18 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Never a dull moment." Harvey raised his glass, regarded her seriously. "If you need it you'll come here and hide. If those robots of yours get out of control."

we can fail together <33

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-19 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Cause here is a way better alternative than giant robots." Playing with the Joker was sooo much more fun. "Don't worry, Harvey. This is my job. It's...my thing, you know?"

perfect solution! <3

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-19 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Harvey had to give her that. "It's a coin toss either way." He commented, almost mocking himself - halfway. "Fine, your 'thing.' Try to keep that thing from stomping on you."

<3!

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-19 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Maggie couldn't help but snort at that. A coin toss. How ironic.

"Pretty much. And trust me, I'll try to stay out from underfoot." Emphasis on try. She hadn't done so well the first time.

"So what have you been doing in Gotham?"

[identity profile] thedawniscoming.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Harvey's split brow rose but he said nothing else on the matter. It would be wasted breath in all likely hood.

He finished his drink after Maggie asked, punctuating her question. "Fine." He answered as he placed the glass down, pausing only a moment before continuing. "Falcone's men are practically demolished. Their ranks have been completely gutted."

[identity profile] h4ck3r-61rl.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Harvey knows her very well. She gestured to his glass, silently asking if he wanted another.

"Are you behaving yourself bes as possible?" She asked, clearing her throat. His terminology made her raise a brow, but there's no way she's going to ask his actual methods.
